For a thirsty city of 40,000, twenty-six is the magic number. That would mean clean bathing and drinking water for the city of Jacmel, the port town of artists and coffee growers considered ground zero in Haiti’s crushing earthquake this past January. While major press and relief organizations were running out, Water Without Borders walked in with a promise not to leave until the city had essential clean water to drink and bathe in. The cost for Water Without Borders to provide the entire City of Jacmel clean water is only $52,000 for one year. The alternative: what they have drank from for the past four months.
That is why Water Without Borders has created Coffeehouse Cares™ We realize what the local coffeehouse means to the community and what you have created for your customers. To save this city of artists and coffee growers is going to take a community effort and we need your help!
We calculated that if 26 coffeehouses will commit to raising $2000 each through the month of May, we will have the money
we need to provide hope and ward off illness in Jacmel. That will also allow us to focus through the summer on how we
provide permanent water solutions to our Coffeehouse Cares “sister city”. Throw a concert, put out a dedicated jar at the
register, have a “coffee and cheese party” – do whatever it takes to help us save Jacmel, and we in turn we will promote
your coffeehouse as a participant on our websites, drive traffic to your business, and the money you raise can be a
donation as we are a 501c3 non-profit.
